As the year begins, we are renewing discussions with the Rochester City School District Superintendent concerning RCSD engagement in ongoing efforts to create pilot integrated cross-district magnet school(s) in the county.
Discussions are also underway with individuals and groups interested in developing one or more potential cross-district magnet school models that could be proposed as possible pilots to RCSD and suburban districts, and to BOCES, to help advance discussions with interested districts. We anticipate having proposals for review early in 2025.
With the assistance of Johnita Anthony and students at RIT, we’ve made revisions to the look and feel of our website. We invite you to check these out and offer any comments for our consideration.
During 2024, we also released a video, featured on the website, outlining what drives GS4A proposals for integrated cross-district magnet schools, and featuring community support for such schools. Decades of national research have consistently demonstrated that attendance in racially- and socioeconomically-diverse schools improves the odds of better academic outcomes and improved longer-term life outcomes well into adulthood for enrolled students. Furthermore, several professional surveys of Monroe County city and suburban parents and students have documented widespread support for the creation of such schools, across racial, socioeconomic and geographic subgroups.
We will continue to work under the radar to advocate for changes to expand options for students, regardless of their zip codes. In the meantime, we extend our best wishes to all for the new year.
Take a look:
Season’s greetings to all,
Great Schools for All
